The first clean agent brought to the market in 1994 was Dupont™ FM-200®. Introduced as an alternative to the ozone-depleting Halon agents, FM-200® received quick attention and acceptance as the next fire suppression agent.  Also known as HFC-227ea in NFPA 2001 Standard, this agent is odorless, colorless, liquefied compressed gas that discharges as an electrically non-conductive, clear vapor.  The agent extinguishes fire by a combination of chemical and physical mechanisms.  Stored in a sealed cylinder in a liquid state, FM-200® discharges through nozzles attached to a pipe network that is activated by a comprehensive control system of detectors and pull stations. As an extinguishing agent, FM-200® leaves no residue and does not require costly clean up unlike sprinklers and other fire protection systems.  The discharge occurs in 10 seconds or less and extinguishes the fire quickly and effectively.  This fast extinguishment translates into minimal equipment / facility damage and little to no business interruption.

FM-200® Clean Agent Fire Suppression Systems are great in applications ranging from telecommunications and data processing to switch gear rooms, military applications and cell sites to high-tech medical applications. FM-200® fire suppression is also a widely accepted replacement for Halon 1301. FM-200® does not displace oxygen and therefore is safe for use in occupied spaces without fear of oxygen deprivation.  SSI offers HFC-227ea/FM200 clean agent fire suppression systems through our quality line of  Fike Products. and micro-environment Firetrace Protection Systems.
