Bi-Directional Amplifiers (BDA)
The IBC 2018 Code and NFPA 72, 2015 Edition requires that all new buildings (except single and dual family homes) have 95% radio coverage throughout the facility. The Emergency Responder Radio Communication Systems (ERRCS) propagate and amplify radio signals within a building helping service personal to communicate anywhere in the facility.
Why BDA?
Emergency Responders, Firefighters, EMS, and Law Enforcement Officers rely on two-way radios for communications in every day operations. Reliable radio signal coverage is not a luxury. It is a necessity.
These systems are used to enhance in-building radio frequency in all buildings where the (RF) signal coverage is not strong enough for communications to occur between those inside and outside the facility.
How Do I Know If My Building Needs a BDA / ERRCS System?
Existing Construction – You may be unsure if your building needs a ERRCS system. If so, you can contact us at SSI, and we can come into your building and easily test the signals.
New Construction – If you’re involved in the construction plans of a new building and you do not know if your building will need a ERRCS / BDA system or if you see ERRCS / BDA in the plans but are unsure of what that entails, contact us, and we can help you through the process.
Who Can Provide the Testing Required for a ERRCS System?
SSI has the equipment required to perform the GAT test of the radio signal strength in your current facility and on ground of a potential new facility. The equipment works together and records the signal strength along with providing us with a report indicating the levels throughout your facility.

SSI offers the components required for design and installation of the Emergency Responder Radio Communication Systems (ERRCS): signal boosters/ Bi-Directional Amplifiers (BDA), batteries and battery enclosures, donor antennas, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), coaxial cables, connectors and lighting arrestors, power dividers and hybrid couplers, design services and training. Signal Boosters/Bi-Directional Amplifiers (BDA)
Our BDA’s are high gain, high power band-selective signal boosters/bi-directional amplifiers that can be designed and customized to meet all public safety frequency band ranges. It is intended to provide reliable two-way radio and FirstNet™ signal coverage inside buildings, tunnels and other structures. The band selective design delivers a reliable performance in even the most challenging RF environments.

FCC License
SSI has 5 staff members with the GROL (General Radio Telephone Operation License) that is required by the FCC to perform a signal strength test. These tests of your facility will determine if your building requires additional coverage. Our system installations comply to all NFPA / IBC / IFC and local municipality standards, to be the best choice for public safety and other mission-critical applications.
